Our New Equestrian Center!

It has been an exciting process and in April of 2020, Taking the Reins completed the construction of the new barn!

Taking the Reins Grows!

The Old Red Barn that has been TTR’s home since 2008 was built in 1935 and embodied all of the charm, quirks and challenges of being the oldest barn still used for equines in Los Angeles.

While we were all enchanted with it’s history and charisma, the Old Red Barn was fast becoming unstable and therefore no longer appropriate to house our program horses and children.

Thanks to the support of many – including the Stull Family Foundation – TTR was able to pay off our mortgage in 2018. With complete ownership in hand, Taking the Reins was positioned to begin building our new equestrian and office facility.

In 2019, due to the generosity of June Street Architects, we completed the amazing design and with the support of many foundations and individuals, we were able to break ground in October:

During the first few months of 2022, TTR’s Equestrian Programming relocated to the Los Angeles Equestrian Center (LAEC) while we began construction of our new office and Education Center.

We look forward to our horses returning home at the completion of our construction projects. Stay tuned for more updates!
