Our Mission:
Advancing Girl Power through HorsePower and inspiring youth through nature!
Taking the Reins inspires under-resourced girls to act with courage and confidence through experiences with horses, as well as providing hands-on natural science instruction for the youth of Greater Los Angeles
Caring for our horse herd, tending to our flock of chickens, keeping our sheep and burro happy, and planting and harvesting in our garden are all examples of how students learn the four pillars of Confidence, Leadership, Responsibility, and Teamwork at TTR.
Our Programs
Equestrian Program
The beauty of horseback riding is that you need to learn how to be in complete control while also in complete surrender.
It’s a condition that you cannot explain until you have climbed onto the back of a horse and held the reins in your hand.

Seed-to-Skillet Garden Program
Our Seed-to-Skillet program is a comprehensive gardening program where girls learn to plant, nurture, harvest and then cook their harvest!
Utilizing a S.T.E.A.M.-based curriculum, girls learn about healthy eating and nutrition, and environmental stewardship in the living laboratory of our 1/4 acre, onsite garden.
Animal Husbandry
Students interact with and learn to care for sheep, rabbits, goats, chickens, ducks, horses, ponies, dogs, and cats!
Girls experience our farm animals as vulnerable beings in need of care and feeding, as well as providers of agricultural products and helpers who provide services.

Learning Center
Our Learning Center offers core participants hands-on S.T.E.A.M.-based classes and experiences.
Additionally,we open our doors and host field trips, tours, workshops, and classes for visiting students from LA schools and other youth non-profits. All of our programs highlight ecology and environmental conservation as students learn to be mindful stewards of our planet.
