One time gift
Supporting Taking the Reins with a one time gift is greatly appreciated. You can help TTR finish the new barn or support a child, horse or barn animal. Many donors choose to sponsor a girl or animal for one session, which is $500.00 every six weeks.

Monthly giving
We love monthly giving to support an animal or girl. You can choose the amount that is comfortable for you and know you are supporting something you love. Whatever you choose, you can rest assured your gift will have a positive affect on the life of a young woman.

Corporate Giving; Foundations & Trusts
Many corporations will offer to match monetary gifts you make to non-profits. Ask your company today! Also, if you have or are affiliated with a foundation or trust, larger gifts make a long term difference in the lives of under served girls in the Los Angeles Basin.

In loving memory of Cassie 🪽 2004-2025
Cassie was more than just a horse-she was a gentle guide, a patient teacher, and a loving companion. From preschool classrooms to elementary school yards, from birthday parties to field trips, Cassie brought joy and comfort to hundreds of children. Her calm nature and quiet strength made even the most nervous first-time visitor feel welcome.
She joined Taking the Reins in 2013, and she holds the rare distinction of being the only horse still with us from the moment our Executive Director began her journey here.
Cassie witnessed so much growth -not
only in the program, but in the girls who led her, brushed her, walked beside her, anc learned from her.
Cassie may have been a mini, but the space she filled-both in our barn and in our hearts- was anything but small. Her memory lives on in the stories we tell, the photos we treasure, and the confidence she helped so many young people find
Thank you Cassie, for everything. You will always be part of the foundation that Taking the Reins stands on. We love you Cassie, you have left on our hearts.

Some moments from our recent Opportunity Fair. We hosted professionals, schools, and even dogs ready for adoption! It was a great day for our community. 🤎

Mother’s Day in the garden 🪴 🌼 🥕 🍎 🩷
We made goodies for our student’s moms and caretakers, including loose leaf tea from dried mugwort and calendula seeds we harvested and gathered. The girls harvested carrots from our garden, grated apples, and enjoyed the muffins we made with those ingredients. Then we made a nature weaving with recycled cardboard, hand picked flowers and greens. We also spent time on some garden projects that needed our attention. Finally, we would like to thank Ms. Alexis who is a volunteer that has been helping us for the last few weeks!

A big thank you this Teacher Appreciation Week goes out to Austin! Not only does he keep everything working properly looking beautiful on our property as the Facility Manager, but he also teaches our life skills class. This includes wood shop, car mechanics and many other things! 🤎

Happy Teacher Appreciation week to Emily our Garden Instructor! She is newer to the team, but making a great impact on our girls. She teaches them about all things nature and helps them create healthy, delicious meals in our kitchen. Thank you Emily! We are grateful for you. 🪴

Our Sunday class was busy over the weekend! First, they used Natural History Museum’s guide to backyard birding to identify as many birds as they could find in the garden and river! Then, back to the garden for more discussion. Finally, into the kitchen to make delicious egg muffins. Did you know we share recipes on our monthly newsletter? If you aren’t subscribed yet, send us a DM with your email so that you don’t miss this egg muffin recipe in May!
